Age: 21 (no seriously 49)
Job title
GOALS Administrator
Main tasks
Main tasks are to provide a full and comprehensive Admin Service to the GOALS Manager and GOALS Project Workers for the Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent, Torfaen and Monmouthshire areas.
Why I got into this work
I previously worked in the Legal and NHS profession for 31 years as a Secretary which mainly involved working on a one to one basis with very little opportunity of face to face contact. As I enjoy being more involved with people I felt that I needed a new and challenging role. The vacancy of a GOALS Administrator became available which meant that not only would I be involved in a new project but a complete new area of work. The GOALS Project has also given me the opportunity of working in my local community.
A brief history of how I got into this work
I started my career at the age of 16 with a Cardiff based Furniture Store where I worked as a Cashier/Clerical Officer for two years. I then worked for British Gas as a secretary where I remained for 18 years until my position was made redundant. Following redundacy I went into the private legal sector as a secretary where I remained for a further 8 years. After this I worked for the NHS as a Secretary for two years until I returned to the legal profession for one year prior to taking up my present role as GOALS Administrator.
Life experience: In 1993 I went to Australia for a family wedding it was a total surprise for my nephew (the groom) until we arrived at "arrivals" – this was one of my most happy life memories.
