Service Information Leaflet for Young People
The service is in the development stages and as the service develops so will these pages. We want you (young people, family members and professionals) to be part of this development as we go along.
If you are a young person / family member you can;
- Get an email/text when new things happen

Young People Substance Use Screening Tool 'DUST'
The screening tool will be a number of questions for you to sit down and ask a young person. The score on this can then be used to guide you to what is the best kind of support to offer the young person.
Who can the CYPS support?

Types of support that can be offered
- Harm reduction
- The CYPS will provide a specialist needle exchange in line with local and national guidance. Young people will be provided with harm reduction information and informed of the support available within the service. The CYPS will provide prescribing services for young people in conjunction with evidenced based one-to-one support.
- One-to-one
- A range of evidenced based interventions will be available for young people. A specialist worker will work with the young person to assess their needs and select the most appropriate intervention aimed at behaviour change related to substance misuse. These will include brief support (1-3 sessions), behavioural therapies, motivational work and cognitive behavioural therapy.
- Family therapy
- A package of support will be provided for young people to work with their families. This will include looking at how the family functions, drug use as a way of coping, changing family interactions, and assisting the young person to achieve their goals.
- Groupwork
- A number of groups will be developed including, but not limited to, relapse prevention and educational sessions.
- Life skills
- A rolling programme of workshops will be available. They will be age-specific and include a variety of topics including, but not limited to, stress management, decision making and goal setting, financial literacy, safe relationships and problem solving.
- Recreational Counselling
- A range of activities will be available to the young people to increase self efficacy, alleviate boredom and offer opportunities to develop and enhance positive social networks.
